Yara Shayeh Shahidi has been designated as the ambassador for Jean Paul Gaultier’s upcoming feminine fragrance, Jean Paul Gaultier Divine. The fragrance is scheduled to launch on August 9th, 2023, initially on the brand’s website and later in the UK and the USA. According to WWD’s report, the star of Black-ish and its spin-off series Grown-ish, Yara, will be the face of the new Eau de Parfum, crafted by perfumer Quentin Bisch. This collaboration follows Shahidi’s appearance in Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture at the 2023 Met Gala in May.
At the age of 23, she commenced her journey in the film industry at the tender age of 6, gracing television commercials and print advertisements for prominent brands like McDonald’s, Ralph Lauren, and Target. Her transition to the silver screen occurred in 2009 when she starred alongside comedy veteran Eddie Murphy in the movie Imagine That, earning her a Young Artist Award nomination for her remarkable performance in the feature film category. In 2023, Yara Shahidi portrayed Tinkerbell in the Disney live-action remake directed by David Lowery.
Puig’s decision, as the overseer of the Gaultier fragrance lineup, is intriguing as it embraces inclusivity and directly targets Generation Z, a pivotal segment of the current brand market.
The iconic scents, Classique and Le Male, have stood the test of time and have significantly influenced younger consumers for at least two generations. They continue to hold a strong sway over the market.
Earlier, alongside Natalie Portman, Shahidi took the lead in Dior’s Rouge Dior Forever lipstick campaign. The advertisements, directed by Arnaud Uyttenhove, featured Portman and Shahidi strolling through a desert, adorned in red dresses while showcasing the newly launched lipstick.
Dior declared last year, “For this new Rouge Dior Forever campaign, we are proud to welcome the captivating @YaraShahidi as a new ambassador.” They praised her as a rising star in American cinema, embodying the essence of a Dior woman with her strong dedication and brilliant mind. In 2021, the actress became a Dior ambassador and also participated in the Stand with Women campaign.
Her activism caught the attention of Michelle Obama, and the actress founded Eighteen x 18 with the social news publisher NowThis. The organization aimed to encourage her peers to vote for the first time in the upcoming midterm elections. Additionally, Shahidi established Yara’s Club in partnership with the Young Women’s Leadership Network (YWLN) of New York, providing online mentorship to combat poverty through education.
Gaultier and Puig demonstrate their attentiveness to their target audience and broader demographics by relaunching a limited edition of the discontinued Gaultier2 on their website. The initial 5,000 units were swiftly sold out within three days, followed by an additional 3,500 bottles in February, vanishing in less than 24 hours.
The upcoming release includes 4,000 units available on August 3rd through Gaultier’s European websites, followed by a Gaultier2 U.S. drop by the end of the year.
Now, they have welcomed Yara aboard as she joins Gaultier and Puig for their new women’s floral marine fragrance, Divine.
Stay tuned for complete details on the actual fragrance; we will report shortly!
